If you are experiencing urgent psychological or emotional distress, please:

  • Call the Samaritans for free on 116 123 or email them at jo@samaritans.org.
  • Text the word ‘SHOUT‘ to 85258 to start a conversation. SHOUT offer free and confidential support 24/7.
  • Call CALM on 0800 58 58 58 (5pm-midnight) or use their webchat for support anywhere in the UK.
  • Call Self-Injury Support on 0808 800 8088 or text them on 07537 432 444 (Mon-Thu, 7pm-10pm). This service is for women and girls looking for confidential and anonymous self-injury support.
  • Call PAPYRUS on 0800 068 4141, text 88247 or email pat@papyrus-uk.org for confidential advice and support 24/7, every day of the year. This service is for people under 35 who are considering suicide.
  • Contact your GP and request an emergency appointment.
  • Visit www.nhs.uk and type, for example, ‘suicide’ in the search box. All areas have local mental health crisis lines where urgent help, possibly at home, can be arranged.
  • Call friends or family. If you can, I encourage you to do so.
  • Visit one of the Community Front Rooms, if you are based in Dorset. There are Community Front Rooms in Bridport, Shaftesbury, Wareham and Weymouth, and all offer face-to-face and online drop-ins. Click here for details about opening times and how to contact them.
